Following the temple touring, stop for lunch at a restaurant set amid the rice fields. Next, you’ll get a taste for local life with a horse cart ride through Candirejo village. Known as a dokar, the local horse cart will take you through this peaceful, charming village.
You’ll travel along small lanes lined with traditional houses and stop to see village activities such as making cassava crackers, playing the gamelan and harvesting and drying of vanilla and chili. Back to Jogja.
As you start the day in the morning, you will be on your way very close to the proximity of the city, yet still well preserved in the original traditional way. In the morning, explore the old city of Jogjakarta by visiting the Sultan palace and Taman Sari castle. You will learn all about how the royal family impacted the Javanese people. This is deemed as the cultural core in the vicinity. Many an amazing artefact can be found in the museum which is situated right inside the palace. Whilst walking around the grounds of the Taman Sari castle you shall learn about how this castle was the jack of all trades as it was the hub for a whole host of activities including meditation, defence, relaxation and even hiding.
We cruise down to Borobudur which is set 42 kilometres west of Jogjakarta. Saunter and sashay your way around this beautiful Buddhist temple. This temple is made up of thousands upon thousands of volcanic and river stone blocks and took over 75 years to build from start to finish. Built solely by human hands, it really is a marvel! It stands in all its glory with its delicate and exquisite carvings whilst simultaneously being so big you will have your breath taken away by it all. Slip inside and be wowed by more than 500 Buddha statues!
You shall get the chance to sit back and relax as you devour a late lunch at a traditional local restaurant set in the heart of some recherché rice fields. You get to taste some local cuisine whilst breathing in that rich ambience that is ever so abundant in this serene and pretty place.
Once you’re full up, it’s time to head to the ancient Hindu temples at Prambanan which are located a little out of town; you’ll make your way 17 kilometres away from Jogjakarta. Named as a Heritage Site by UNESCO way back in 1991, these 9th century pointed and jagged looking temples are comprised of three main inner shrines which pay homage to the Hindu trinity: Brahma, Vishnu and last but by no means least: Shiva. You’ll be filled in on everything important there is to know from the humble beginnings all the way up to the present day.
Get ready for an early morning departure. Before you know it, you will reach the famous Borobudur temple. Enjoy the area and take a lot of good pictures in the ancient structure as you wish.
After the sunrise, you will be treated for a coffee break with banana fritter while you still be able to enjoy the view of the temple from the distance. Next, a bicycle is ready for you to let you enjoy the traditional Javanese village atmosphere and discover the real Javanese life alongside a pleasant view of the rice field and plantation.
By lunchtime, we will take you to Stupa restaurant for your Indonesian set menu lunch. Selogriyo temple is your next stop, a desolate temple on the hill that can be reached through a gentle walk with lovely mountains and rice paddies view, and climbing about 200 hundred steps. It is located about 30km away from Borobudur, an hour journey through paved and winding country lanes. In the late afternoon back to Jogjakarta.
In the morning meet with your local guide and then directly transfer to Beringharjo Traditional Market, to discover the daily routine of the local people. This market is the biggest and noisiest market that dates back to the 18th century. It is an excellent place to buy batiks, sarongs, keris, antiques and other souvenirs.
Then continue to the Sultan’s Palace, also known as ‘Kraton’. This building, built between 1756 –1790, is a fine example of traditional Javanese sultanate architecture. As you walk through the various rooms and chambers, you will learn more about this aspect of Javanese heritage and culture. At the Keraton exit point, a pedicab or known as Becak wait for you for your short transfer to Taman Sari or Water palace. This palace was built by the first Sultan of Jogjakarta especially dedicated for his harem as a bathing pool.
Next, exploring the art and handicrafts of Jogjakarta. Visit Indonesia's most popular craft, a traditional Batik factory. Here you will have a chance to create your own batik, start from scratch, making a design, applying wax and then continue mixing your own dye. Afterward, return to your hotel in Yogyakarta.
Back the entry point, a traditional horse cart, locally known as Dokar has waiting for you short transfer through traditional Javanese village to Prambanan. Explore the ancient Hindu temples at Prambanan, located 17 kilometers from Jogjakarta.
