If there's one must see whilst your in Kos, it’s the volcanic island of Nisyros. It’s a scenic gem and this afternoon and evening trip takes you there. You'll cruise to its capital, Mandraki for an island tour. Your first stop is Nikia, an old village offering birds eye views over its huge volcanic crater, formed by a massive eruption in the 15th century. Sip coffees or "soumada", the local almond liqueur, in its cute square, taking in the atmosphere. Then, head down to the craters edge, as your guide explains Nisyros' geology and mythology - legend says the island was created from a stone thrown by the god Poseidon. After that, you can walk around the crater or head for the top, sniffing the sulphur fumes and experiencing the steam and heat. Afterwards, head back to Mandraki where there's times to admire its balconied houses, have dinner in a taverna or see its cliffside monastery before returning to Kos.
